Figueroa St. Seismic Retrofit

Kurt Fischer was project manager at Nabih Youssef Associates for the design and permitting phases of seismic retrofit and renovation of the exterior of a 1969 office building at 845 S. Figueroa St. The retrofit if this project included an ASCE 31 evaluation and ASCE 41 seismic retrofit design. The retrofit was required to accommodate the architectural design needs of large openings in the existing concrete masonry exterior walls that were introduced on the building north, west and south sides. These new openings required new concrete shear walls as well as FRP reinforcement to the existing shear walls. The building will be home to a 25,000-square-foot Smart & Final grocery store in 2013 on the ground level and class A office space on the 5 upper floors.
