Kurt Fischer, S.E.
President

I have been working within the construction industry my entire life.  My father was a general contractor and would often bring me to work with him; I spent my summers placing concrete, framing wood houses, and running electrical.  I graduated from UC San Diego with both a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and engineering sciences and a master’s degree in structural engineering.

My first engineering job was for a San Diego engineering firm, Blaylock Engineering Group.  While at Blaylock Engineering Group, I assisted in the design and inspection of multiple waterfront structures across the west coast of the United States.  In the fall of 2004, I moved to Los Angeles to start a new position at Nabih Youssef Associates. I have lived and worked in Los Angeles, with my loving wife and three daughters, ever since.  While at Nabih Yousef Associates I worked on a wide variety of structures including structural design of a wide variety of projects, including high-rise, residential, commercial, educational, hospitality, stadium, institutional, and seismic retrofit work with some of the most recognizable architectural firms in the world.  In 2009 while working on the LA LIVE, I co-authored Seismic performance of a 55-story steel plate shear wall.

In 2013, I decided it was time to start my own structural design practice and founded Kurt Fischer Structural Engineering, where we focus on a creative and collaborative process with our clients. We strive to be at the forefront of our industry by embracing new technology and processes, going so far as to develop our own analysis software. Second only to the engineering, is the importance of a strong, healthy, and positive work environment for our team. We believe in inclusivity and diversity, and that our differing perspectives enrich the value of our engineering skills. I am proud of the foundation that our leaders have built for our growing KFSE team, and the promising path that we are travelling.
